My Daughter's Wedding Card

A week ago today we were attending the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner for my daughter's wedding, and today I am sharing the card in a box I made for their wedding card. I decorated the card in a box with the Celtic knots we used for the invitations and thank you notes, and origami cranes they decorated the hall with. (See picture below.) Marie and Chad blended their families with this marriage so I included the kids and love in the card in the box. Here is another photo of what pops up when the card is opened, as well as the origami cranes and lights, and two favorite photos from the rehearsal dinner.

I love to make personalized cards for very special occasions and people. I am entering this card in the Anything Goes challenges at Crafty Catz and Crafty Girls.

Then I stamped the perfect sentiment and a couple yellow “suns” and raised that piece with pop dots before attaching to a white card base.

Just be sure to finish your blog visits and commenting no later than 5 p.m. Eastern time on June 1st. The winner will be announced on Repeat Impression’s blog and Facebook page on Monday June 2nd.

Here is the order of the blog hop:

I love this new set of stamps from Repeat Impressions called Bottoms Up. You can find the whole set here on Repeat Impressions website. Who doesn’t know a beer or margarita lover to wish Happy Birthday to? For my first card, I stamped and cut out the beer mug and foam, and attached them over a simple background that features two of the awesome sentiments in this set.
Of course I didn’t stop at just one card when I received the Bottoms Up set. I made a new longer form of a “card in a box” with the margarita glass, salt shaker, shot glass, citrus slices and a couple more fantastic “Bottoms Up” sentiments. I found the instructions for the longer version (which fits into an A2 envelope) of a card in a box here on this blog.

What If? Wed. Sketch Challenge at Repeat Impressions

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's time for another fun sketch challenge at The House that Stamps Built and we are challenging you to make a card using the sketch below and link it up for a chance at some great Repeat Impressions rubber! For all the details on what you can win and to see the other Rock Stars cards using this sketch, please visit our blog.

Before I get to describing my card, just wanted to remind you: for a 10% discount on any size order at Repeat Impressions, make a note of my discount code (rr10kh), click on the blog badge on the side of my blog and go to the website here to shop and save!

I love the Northern Lights look on cards, but was finding it very difficult to duplicate. Then I found a tutorial here that shows you how to use lines of colors to get a nice look that is much easier. I sponged the background, then stamped the tree and deer trio. I added the white gel pen stars, a ribbon and oval  sentiment piece to complete the sketch card.

Here is the sketch for you to follow when you create a card for our challenge. You do not need to use Repeat Impressions stamps to enter our challenges, but you get an extra chance to win if you do!

Just in case you wondered why I did not post any new cards the last few days, I was out of town enjoying my daughter’s wedding.  Here are a couple photos from the joyous occasion:

Embossed Acetate and Clear Views Card

I have been playing with some new Clear Views Transparency pictures from The Mark-it Place and this one just makes me smile. Weeeeeee- enjoy the ride! I cut the transparency picture and the white under it with a Spellbinders die. The card base is a Core'dinations two sided paper and I stamped and cut the "enjoy" star from the other side of the paper. The star die is a Spellbinders and "enjoy" is a Heidi Swapp stamp.  I dotted the "j" with a star gem I colored black with a Sharpie.

I cut one inch from the bottom of the front and attached a thick piece of acetate that was embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. I added some green Stickles to the intersections of the embossing. It looks better in real life- just hard to photograph the clear acetate.

On the inside of the card, I sponged green stars with a stencil by Heidi Swapp, and stamped the perfect sentiment from Simon Says Stamp. I messed up my first attempt and the rest of the card was complete- don't you just hate that? So I stamped it again on the same green, cut it out and attached it to the center of the card.

Monochromatic Designer's Choice Challenge at Repeat Impressions

It’s another Designer’s Choice Challenge at The House that Stamps Built, Repeat Impression’s blog. It’s Deonna’s turn and the theme of her challenge is Monochromatic Cards.  After you make your monochrome colored card, you can enter it for a chance to win some awesome Repeat Impressions rubber! Please visit the blog for all the details and to see the other Rock Star's cards for this DCC challenge.

I picked blue for my monochromatic color, and stamped the quilt squares with a blue ink onto lighter blue squares. In the center of the quilt card, I stamped Welcome Little One and the Ducks on a String. I stamped the ducks again on a blue polka dot dp and paper pieced them for a cute baby boy card.

Happy Birthday Vicky from Crackerbox Palace!

This week is the birthday of a special lady, Vicky of Crackerbox Palace:) I created this card for her and sent it and am sharing it today here on my blog. As you know if you follow my blog, I love Crackerbox Palace stamps for many reasons - their high quality rubber, their humor and the variety. This pretty lady is part of a collection of unique stamps I just adore. I created a background with sponging and a stencil on a white piece cut out with a Spellbinders die. I stamped, paper pieced and colored her before attaching the piece in a hole created with the same Spellbinders die in a green piece. Then I added some green leafy flourishes from Marianne Designs.
I have been having fun with floating images on the inside of my cards and in this case, flowers and a Happy Birthday sentiment from Crackerbox Palace pop up when the card is opened by the birthday girl. Here is a picture of the whole inside:
The sentiment is perfect for Vicky- "Wishing a very special person a wonderful day filled with love and happiness" -  tomorrow and always!

Wine Time Floating Surprise Card POTW

It's my turn to share a Project of the Week here and at Repeat Impression's blog, The House that Stamps Built.  I am sharing several techniques and a fun surprise when the card is opened featuring the brand new Wine Time set just released by Repeat Impressions. I started by sponging purple distress ink on a white square of cardstock through a stencil by Heidi Swapp. I cut the center out with a Spellbinders die and also cut the shape out of another white scrap, then stamped the wine glasses and sentiment. Then I paper pieced the wine, sponged the edges and replaced that piece in the hole in the sponged stencil front. Sponging with stencils and using the negative space after die-cutting creates a lovely front of a card. But the real magic happens when the card is opened. Take a look:

The wine bottle, glass and circle sentiment appear to be floating above the card when it is opened! To create this look, cut two pieces of cardstock for your card base with an extra 1/2 inch in length. I wanted a 5 1/4 inch square card when finished, so I cut two purple pieces 5 1/4' x 5 3/4" and scored the longer side at the half inch mark. The two scored half inch folds meet in the middle of the card and strong two sided tape is applied to both 1/2 inch folds. I stamped and paper pieced the wine glass and bottle, then cut them out. I also stamped the Happy Hour sentiment and punched that out with a circle punch. Then I cut three strips of acetate 1/2 inch wide by 3", 4 1/4", and 2 1/2". I attached the three images with glue dots to the acetate, then attached the acetate to the strong two sided tape on the folds in the center of the card. Lining up those two center folds with the strong two sided tape is the hardest part of this card because when they stick to each other, there is no getting it apart. After attaching the front to the back, I stamped another funny Wine Time sentiment in purple ink on a white square, punched a Happy Birthday border punch by Martha Stewart and attached that piece to the bottom center of the card. Here is a picture of the completed center of the card:

This was a fun card to make with a great set of Wine Time stamps. Hope you enjoyed my tutorial and will try some floating surprise cards of your own.

3D Stamp-Paint and Stencils

I managed to find time this week to play with my 3D Stamp-Paint from Viva, stencils and dies I have been neglecting and came up with this card. I started with a yellow piece, a stencil from Memory Box and my gold 3D Stamp-Paint. I attached the stencil to the paper with temporary tape and dabbed on the gold 3D paint with a spouncer. I cut out the green tree frame with a Spellbinders die and stamped the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp on vellum. The 3D paint does not take long at all to dry which is nice for those of us impatient stampers. I attached the vellum behind the tree and frame side and raised the green frame with pop dots and attached to the card. I added a flower and gem to complete the card. The 3D paint has wonderful sparkle and texture which is hard to show you in a photograph.

Anything Goes 4 Kids at Send a Smile 4 Kids!

It’s Saturday and time for another fun challenge at Send a Smile 4 Kids! This time our challenge is Anything Goes 4 a Child! Create and link any card for a child and you could win one of our great prizes.
We have three very generous sponsors for this challenge:  Crackerbox Palace is giving their winner a $15 gift certificate! QKR Stampede is giving their randomly picked winner 5 images!  And Sassy Studio’s winner gets 4 images of their choice! TEAM S.A.S will also be choosing their favorite cards for our top three and the winners will receive a blog badge and an opportunity to be a guest design team member on a future challenge.

My first card features a Peeking Kitty stamp from Crackerbox Palace which is one of my favorites. I tore all around her and she is peaking out of a frame I made with two sided designer paper. I embossed the black piece with an embossing folder from Sizzix and added the perfect sentiment (also from CBP) on a  grey flag.
QKR Stampede's "Hug Me" is the cute stamp I am featuring on this Father's Day card for one of our kids. I paper pieced his tie and shirt and colored the rest with my copics. I rounded the edges and layered onto a green polka-dotted square card.

Old Age Puppy Card from Crackerbox Palace

It's Crackerbox Palace Friday and I am sharing a card I made with some fun new stamps I recently received from Crackerbox Palace. The “old age” sentiment cracks me up and I love the puppy too. I gave him googly eyes after I stamped and cut him out. I cut a semi-circle with a Nestabilities circle die and raised that piece and the puppy with pop dots over a black piece that was embossed with a Cuttlebug numbers embossing folder. I added some more eyes to finish the card.

Thanks for stopping by the my blog. The stamps I have used today and many other awesome stamps are available on our new website here.

Dream Faux Tile Card for Classes

Today I am sharing a card I made for a new individual class in my home I have just finished designing for called Sponging and Inks and Acetate. That is the title also of my article in the newest Scrap and Stamp Arts July issue and I am teaching the same three background techniques in the class as were featured in this article I wrote. This one is called Faux Tile and is not at all hard to do. I scored the white cardstock piece diagonally, then sponged in the bottom corner with a light brown distress ink. Then I cut out the center with a Spellbinders oval die. The stamps are from a new set from Close to My Heart and I stamped the pretty lady on vellum. I colored her flower and used a stylus and thick mat to raise her arms, face and legs for dimension.

Guy's Bow Tie Card

I was totally inspired by this card on this blog to make this card for next month's classes in my home. I am loving it and hope my students do too. It could be used for Father's Day or a guy's birthday or any masculine celebration. The bow tie was made with my Envelope Punch Board by WeRMemoryKeepers after viewing several U-tube videos. I embossed the vest with an embossing folder by Sizzix and stamped and cut out the sentiment piece from Inspired by Stamping.

In Honor of Maggie

My daughter and her family recently had to say goodbye to their sweet dog Maggie and I made this card to express my sympathy for their loss. I printed a picture of Maggie and attached it to a kraft card. I cut a piece of vellum the same size as the picture and stamped the perfect sentiment from a set by Raisin Boat. The paw prints are from the same set and I attached the vellum with heart brads. I love how personalized cards can be special and meaningful in tough times as well as joyful ones.

Feather Thank You Card

Haven't had a chance to play with my Silhouette for quite a while, but this is a card I made and never had a chance to share here on my blog. I love to use the positives and negatives of dies as you know if you follow my blog. This time I cut the feather with my Silhouette and a Silhouette America cutting file, then embossed the feather cut out with a Sizzix embossing folder. Under the open space of the feather die, I attached some scenery designer paper out of my old old stash. The thank you sentiment is an old one from Stampin' Up.

Spring Flowers for a Spring Day

We are a little late getting to Spring here in central Wisconsin, but I think it is finally here. Lots of May showers will hopefully bring June flowers this year. I made this card entirely with Memory Box dies and embossing folders, so it is pretty self explanatory. I think it could be a good "thinking of you" or any occasion card.

I'll have a cafe', mocha, vodka, valium, latte to go please...

Then please pick me up off the ground… It's Crackerbox Friday and I am sharing a new card I made with a bunch of fun stamps from Crackerbox Palace. I love making people laugh with my cards and CBP has so many funny lol stamps. I just used part of the sentiment on the front in the center of a cream top opening card. I stamped the coffee cup and floral element in Versamark on kraft paper and attached the top half with mounting tape to raise. I embossed the bottom half with a Tim Holtz wood embossing folder and sponged on brown Viva 3D Stamp Paint. I also raised that piece with mounting tape. I stamped CBP’s coffee pot on patterned paper, cut it out and attached. Check out the rest of the sentiment on the inside- could you imagine how you’d feel after that combo?

Thanks for stopping by my blog. The stamps I have used today and many other awesome stamps are available on our new website here.

CAS LOL Man's Card

Does the title make sense to you? I will translate: Clean and Simple Laugh Out Loud Man's Card:) I had a request for some funny men's cards and I went back to favorite riddle I had used years ago when I was selling cards at craft shows. That card never failed to get a belly laugh when the person reading opened it to see:
Of course, it has to be for the right guy- one you can kid about his age and has a good sense of humor- and doesn't really need them yet.... I cut the underwear out by hand and drew a clothesline for them to hang on. The riddle and answer were printed with my computer. So easy, but still should bring a big laugh to the recipient.

Designer's Choice Challenge at Repeat Impressions

It’s another Designer’s Choice Challenge at The House that Stamps Built, Repeat Impression’s blog. It’s Cheri’s turn and the theme of her challenge is Bird Watching.  After you make your card with a bird on it, you can enter it for a chance to win some awesome Repeat Impressions rubber! Please visit the blog for all the details and to see the other Rock Star's cards for this DCC challenge.

One of my favorite Repeat Impression’s stamps is the Crowned Crane Deco stamp I am featuring on this card. I love using positives and negatives in my cards and this time I used black and white for the positive/negative contrast. I layered the stamped image on textured gray and also on the inside of the card. The bottom was punched with a Stampin’ Up chevron border punch. I punched it again in white and attached the white layer going the opposite way.

Playing with Stencils and 3D Stamp Paint

I have been playing with stencils and Viva 3D Stamp Paint. It has great texture and sparkle in real life- not so much in a picture. I have a butterfly stencil from Heidi Swapp and I applied sparkly blue 3D stamp paint through the butterfly holes in the stencil. I added some punched and die cut butterflies, a die cut sentiment and some sequins to complete the card.

Have a To-tea-ly Awesome Day!

I recently received two cards in the mail that gave me the ideas I used in this card. I was reminded of the subtle look of faux silk and a different way to open the card and I consider a card with a great idea one the best presents you can give me:) I stamped the beautiful tea cup from Stampin' Up on a piece of white cardstock in a bright aqua blue ink. I crumbled up a piece of white tissue paper, then attached it after applying a coat of glue stick. The wrinkles remain giving the piece a subtle textured feel and look.
The top part swings open on a hinge to reveal the fun sentiment from Inky Antics on the inside. The bottom front peach piece was embossed with an embossing folder from Embossalicious.

Happy Father's Day (From the Kids) Challenge at SAS4Kids

It’s Saturday and time for another fun challenge at Send a Smile 4 Kids! This time our challenge is Happy Father’s Day (From the Kids)! Create and link any card that a child could give to his Dad or Grandpa and you could win one of our great prizes. Once again we are starting early so there is enough time should you choose to send in your Father’s Day cards for one of our kids in a children’s hospital on Father’s Day to give to his Dad or Grandpa. The gift of giving is one of the best things we can give to our kids! All the details on how to donate can be found on the blog here.

We have three very generous sponsors for this challenge: Kitchen Sink Stamps is giving their winner a $25 gift certificate! Stitchy Bear Outlet is giving their randomly picked winner 3 images (a $10 value)!  And Fred She Said’s winner gets a $10 gift certificate! TEAM S.A.S will also be choosing their favorite cards for our top three and the winners will receive a blog badge and an opportunity to be a guest design team member on a future challenge.

My first card above is made with a set of stamps from Kitchen Sink Stamps called Classic Old Truck. It is perfect for Father's Day or any other occasion for a man. I love Kitchen Sink Stamps because they make me feel like a real artist with all the beautiful shading made easy with their series of stamps for each image. The truck is created with several shades of red ink, along with grey and black ink in stamping layers. The sentiment is from the same set. The silvery black background is made with an embossing folder from Cuttlebug and sponged on 3D Stamp Paint from Viva.

My second card features BB Kakes Balloon Boy from Stitchy Bear's Digi Outlet. Isn't he sweet? I stamped him on a white square and a light blue square, cut out the squares and put him back together as shown. I layered on navy blue and then a patterned cardstock card and added a fun sentiment.

My last card showcases a cute little girl called "Emma in her Cool Cap" from Fred She Said. I created a heart easel card with several Spellbinders heart dies and embossed the pink top heart with an embossing folder from Darice.  Sweet Emma who loves her Dad was printed and simply cut out. The Happy Father's Day sentiment is popped up with pop dots so it holds the easel card open as shown in the second picture.

Wine Time Blog Hop at Repeat Impressions!

Hello blog friends!!!

I am so excited!  Wendy and Bill of Repeat Impressions (The House That Stamps Built Blog) are releasing another fabulous new stamp set called Wine Time and you could WIN the whole set by playing our word game.

Each Rock Star and Wendy at the Repeat Impressions blog has been given a letter which spells out a secret word. All you have to do is collect all the letters on each blog along the route, unscramble them, then send the secret word to Wendy (wendy@repeatimpressions.com) and you'll be entered to win the gorgeous new Wine Time stamp set. Send Wendy the secret word no later than 5 p.m. eastern time on Monday May 5th. The winner will be announced on May 6th on Repeat’s blog and Facebook page.

Here is the order of the blog hop:

I had so much fun designing with this new set of stamps, I couldn’t stop at just one card! My first card above started with a purple card base and a white top folding piece with a hole punched in the front. I masked the same hole shape on the inside, sponged with purple distress ink and stamped the Happy Hour sentiment. The wine glasses were stamped on grey and again on purple, and I paper pieced the grape wine. I stamped the corks on cork paper and cut out. I love how the sentiments in this set are just perfect for wine lovers with a sense of humor!
My second card features the bottle of wine, wine label, small glass of wine and corks from the Wine Time set. I did my usual paper piecing and embossed the bottom half of the front with a Happy Birthday embossing folder. The strip with the brad on the side opens to reveal the perfect sentiment for the birthday girl:

Did you guess my letter? I highlighted it several times. My letter is I.

Have fun blog hopping and collecting the letters and good luck on the prize draw!

Happy Blooming Birthday from Crackerbox Palace

Tomorrow is a fun surprise on my blog so I have moved my weekly Crackerbox Palace blog post up a day. I am sharing a floral vintage card I made with CPB’s large rose and “Happy Blooming Birthday” stamps. I created tiles of two different patterned papers by cutting 1 ¼” squares and sponging the edges with a brown distress ink. I attached the tiles to a brown square and then stamped the large rose in brown. I layered that piece onto a top folding kraft card and added a piece of washi tape along the bottom. I stamped, cut out and sponged the perfect sentiment and added some pearls to complete the card.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. The stamps I have used today and many other awesome stamps are available on our new website here.
If you are local and going to the Saynor Stampede Saturday, stop in to Crackerbox Palace's booth to check out their stamps and say hi to Vicky and John. I will be there- hope to see you too!
I am entering this card in the Anything Goes challenge at Crafty Sentiments and the Floral challenge at Fan-Tastic Tuesday.
